The Bold Spring Baptist Church was organized under the direction of the Rev. Monroe Mardeman, the first Sunday in August, 1892, in an old one-room building. Some decons from Hillsboro, Elm Mott and Gholdson, Texas, participated in the organizing which took place near Bold Springs Cemetery. Rev. Hardeman and 6 or 8 members moved from that site shortly after the organizing. They moved on the property of Dec. W.W. Daily’s parents directly east across the street from here.
They, being unable to purchase lumber to build the church, used a brush arbor to hold worshipping service. By the help of God, they were soon able to by lumber and build a one-room building about 8 X 10. There Rev. Hardeman conducted services. This was approximately in 1898. Rev. Henry Walker was called and pastored for a short period. A public school building was build and it was agreed that they could have both church and school in the same building. This room was sold as a dwelling purpose which is now the kitchen of the old Daisy Anderson homestead. After Rev. Henry Walker resigned, Rev. Mose Ervin, Sam Conner, and Rev. W.M. Harris served short tenures. About 1904, Rev A.A. Banks Sr. was called. The membership was revived and placed on progressive basis. Rev. Banks pastored until 1914 and resigned. The church was without a pastor for a short period before Rev. A.L. White was called. Under his divine leadership the membership of the church increased. The decons were Henry Williams, chrm., W.W. Daily, Frank Mitchell I., John Sullivan, Edgar Johnson, S. Lee, and Thomas Melvin. Bro. Melvin is the only survivor of that decon board. Under Rev. White’s leadership we were successful enough to purchase the old building which was recently demolished. Rev. White remainded here about ten years before resigning. Other pastors who served, included the Rev. R.E. Davis, Banks, Higgins, Hester, King, Owens, Watson, and S.J. Gilbert, all of whom left the church in good faith and good financial standing. Until the call of Rev. M.E. Robinson, our church was on a two-Sunday a month basis. Under his leadership we purchased a parsonage and converted to full-time services.
The next leader sent by the Good Master was the Rev. L.H. Mills. It is to his credit and untiring efforts and the devine Guidance of God we have enjoyed this fine Edifice up to this period of time. Rev. Mills was a great asset to this community. The people of this community had enough confidence in the leadership ability of Rev. Mills to believe that if he started this task he would be around to see it completed. After Rev. Mills departed, Rev. C.L. Roberts came and pastored for about two and a half years. When the church finances did not meet all its obligations, Rev. Roberts offered his salary, which the church was paying him. When the Rev, the church was in good standing. After Rev. Roberts moved to another city, Rev. Hosea Dolphus Jr. was selected as our leader and Pastor. Rev. Dolphus did a splendid job in the sight of God and his fellowman. He remained our leader and Pastor for about two and a half years. He was then called to another city to Pastor. The next leader was Rev. James W. Jackson, Jr. who became our pastor in 1973. He has done a fine job being selected as the pastor and leader. Under the Rev. Jackson and Guidance of God, we have done great work. The church has been remodeled both inside and out. Many other accomplishments have been made. We have purchased the adjourning lot to the back of us. All of this was done with the help of the Almighty God, who has enabled us to pay our church note off, in full. Truly it was the help of the good Lord that we reached our goal.
Rev. A.L. Bell was called as pastor of Bold Spring Baptist Church October 2, 1983. He is a person of outstanding leadership ability, a great flow of words, and an appreciative personal appeal. He is ours, and we are proud of him: first because of his accomplishments, and second, because of the love he has for humanity.
